What the arrangement is
Two uses, and the second is the local one
The familiar use is a date gap: a sale completes and a purchase does not, or a tenancy ends before the next begins. Goods are collected on the certain date and held until the other side is real.
The use that is more common here is thinking time. On a downsize you cannot know what the new rooms take until you are in them. On an estate you cannot distribute until the beneficiaries have decided. Both produce a set of goods with no decision attached, and forcing that decision into moving week is how people end up regretting things.
Why the list matters on held goods
More than it does on a straight move. Goods that sit for a while are goods somebody will eventually ask about, and on a landlord or executor instruction the person asking may not be the person who booked.
So the inventory is made at the property, a copy goes to whoever instructs us, and it is what we reconcile against on the way out.
This versus a self-storage unit
A unit is a room with a key, filled by you and open whenever the building is. It suits anyone needing frequent access.
Ours is the other arrangement: the crew loads at the property, the goods stay as loaded, and access is arranged rather than casual. Fewer handlings, less carrying, no key to keep track of — and no wandering in on a Sunday.
Distributing out of store
On estates in particular, goods frequently leave storage to two or three different addresses rather than one. That is planned rather than improvised, and each delivery is recorded against the original list.

- How much space will I need?
- More than you would guess. We measure at survey rather than asking you to estimate, and the arrangement is adjusted if the survey called it wrong.
- How long can you hold goods?
- For as long as the decisions take. The terms, including notice for redelivery, are set out in your booking contract in writing.
- Can goods go out to several addresses?
- Yes, and on estate work that is usual. Each delivery is recorded against the original inventory.
- Can I get at my things?
- With notice. If you know you will want particular items, say so at loading and we will keep them reachable.
- Are stored goods covered?
- Cover and its exclusions are stated in the booking contract. Declare anything unusually valuable at survey.
